SUMMARY

CASE is a coalition of non-governmental organisations from across Europe united in recognition of the threat posed to public watchdogs by Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (“SLAPPs”). The participating organisations are Justice and Environment, NGO Shipbreaking Platform, Mighty Earth, ARTICLE19, European Federation of Journalists, Media Defence, PILnet, Whistleblowing International Network, A4ID, Blueprint for Free Speech, Umweltinstitut Munchen e.V., Civil Rights Defenders, ECPMF, OBC Transeuropa, Index on Censorship, FIDH, Reporters Without Borders, Civil Liberties Union for Europe, IMS, ECNL, EEB, Environmental Paper Network, International Press Institute, Committee to Protect Journalists, Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation, PEN International, Sherpa, Transparency International EU, Greenpeace Nordic and Greenpeace EU. 

CASE has created the website www.the-case.eu (the “Website”) for informative purposes only which aims to provide a single European platform for public watchdogs to seek legal support, access resources, learn about the impact of SLAPPs, and join campaign and advocacy efforts to tackle the problem.

KEY TERMS 

GDPR means the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679)

Personal data is information that can be used to identify or contact a specific individual, such as a name, address, telephone number, email address, etc., and also includes online identifiers and location data such as IP addresses and mobile device IDs.

A Visitor is a user of the website who may interact with our pages and various services (for example by downloading resources) without providing any personal data. A Visitor can access various resources, information and stories for public watchdogs exposed to SLAPPs.

A Member is a user of the Website who provides personal details to be able to join email lists, submit a contact form, report SLAPPs, sign on to CASE campaigns, or join the CASE legal network – hereafter referred to as “services”.

THE LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING: We are processing your data for the purposes of our legitimate interests in operating the Website and answering your requests submitted via the website, organising and managing working groups, engaging in discussions about reported SLAPP cases and running our campaigns and otherwise in providing you the services as outlined on the Website.

SPECIAL DATA CATEGORY DEFINITIONS: We ask that you do not provide special category data on any from submitted on the Website, including via the Contact Us function. There are no special categories of personal data collected. There are no special categories of person data collected.

FOR MEMBERS AND VISITORS: HOW DO WE USE YOUR ANONYMISED INFORMATION AND WHY? 

Anonymised location information: for both members and visitors, most browsers provide GPN with anonymised location information through the use of the Google Analytics tool.

Use of the service: Each visit by a member or visitor to the Website is automatically logged by GPN’s web servers. These logs usually include the time of connection, IP address, web pages visited, features used, web browser, and other similar information. Please also see our section What are Cookies below.

 

HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR PERSONAL DATA UP-TO-DATE?

DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL DATA?

In order to provide the services as outlined on the Website GPN will share your data with other selected organisations within the coalition as named in this Privacy Policy as the coalition. To ensure the protection of your data we have data sharing agreements in place with each of the organisations with whom this information is shared.  These groups include:

We do not view the addition of groups within the coalition to this list as a material change to the Privacy Policy and therefore will not publish this change as per our Changes to the Privacy Policy section below. Please visit often to review any changes here.

Except as provided above, we will not share personal data with any other third parties without informing you beforehand, unless required by, or in connection with, law and / or regulatory requirements.

We will not sell, trade or lease your personal data to others.

RETENTION PERIODS

We will not hold your personal data for any longer than is necessary for the uses outlined above, unless we are required to keep your personal data longer to comply with the law and any regulatory requirements. We will retain Members information up to a period of 24-months from their final interaction with the Website.

Is users’ information transmitted to countries outside the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA)?

We do not intend to transfer users’ information to countries outside of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA). f the situation arises that we have to transfer data outside the EEA we will ensure that the transfer is made to a country that is protected by a European Commission decision or otherwise made under conditions where we have appropriate on-site security to protect users’ information in accordance with the GDPR, such as entering into standard agreements approved by the EU.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

GPN may periodically amend this Privacy Policy and change or revoke access to the Website at any time, with or without any prior notice. However, if this Privacy Policy changes materially, in a disadvantageous manner, GPN will notify such change on the Website for 30 days. GPN recommends that you visit this Privacy Policy from time to time to notice any changes.
